Since arriving in sunny Florida I left the gates of life and daily routine. I created a routine around writing, walking/exercise and things that I love. Michigan turned me into a slug. It wasn't the state that turned me, but the atmosphere surrounding me. I was confined, not travelling, mentally unravelling, some would say, and it wasn't comfortable, at all. There was no fault on Maria, Cocoa or my family.
In hindsight, I think it was tedium because I fell back into a job, stopped travel altogether, and trekked down that all so familiar path of my bubbled life. Suddenly we started selling things that we no longer needed, I completed a couple projects and hired projects to be completed on Dark Nest. Maria and I coordinated with our adult children talking about what they wanted to take and make a part of their homes.
Melancholy set in, yes, but in our entire marriage, Maria and I have weaved in and out of life, mostly down a consistent trail. A routine with jobs, meals, laundry, a slew of pets, raising our children and it was all for the better. Now, we are empty nesters and we've been looking and working toward it for years. We are free of obligation to anyone but our marriage and to what we want out of this life.
Being empty nesters was a hard pill to swallow in the beginning. In fact it took two years after our last one left the nest to justify buying a steak from the grocer for dinner. Slowly we slipped into the idea of full time life in our RV. We have worked our whole life and came to this decision for some time now, and we've arrived. We are ready. It is now time to take the plunge into a new adventure, to get rid of the slug within us, and move as far foreword as we can.
I hope all of you can remove that slug that congests and guides you through life at times. Maybe you're just content doing what you're doing, whatever and wherever you are, be happy, burn the slug. Never let anyone define how and what you do, we didn't, and honestly we have no regrets for any decision.
Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for reading. For those of you interested in our life and travel you can visit: Dark Nest Travels on YouTube to check out video. Everyone welcome!
